Rutland Fire Department is introducing a new FREE program to help residents in the community to keep their home and families safe for years to come. Rutland has many resources we can use to help make every member of your family feel comfortable and to keep your mind at ease! In conjunction with the American Red Cross, we are now offering home evaluations to help suggest safety tips, assist you, and answer any questions you have about the safety of your home and family.
The programs we are offering are:
EZ child/Medical ID- Rutland Regional Emergency Communication Center are able to fingerprint children and seniors and will give you a thumb drive with all of the information for you to have.
Swift 911 Home Alone Monitoring- A daily call for Seniors or school aged kids at a set time to make sure they are safe. Whether it is a call first thin in the morning or when your child is getting home off the bus, we can set up your own personalized message.
SafetyNet Tracking System- GPS tracking system helpful for children that are prone to wonder or seniors with Alzheimer’s or Dementia. One-time fee for the bracelet $179 and a $35 monthly fee for subscription.*
Knox Box Keys- A secure way for the Fire Dept. to have a way to access your house in case of an emergency.
Life Alert Systems- Safety buttons for seniors that can contact 911 in case they are unable to get to a phone to call for help. Charge for a button with annual fee.*
Bed Shakers- An alarm for hard of hearing residents that alert you at night if the smoke alarms are going off and they are unable to hear them.
Smoke Alarm/Carbon Monoxide Evaluations- Smoke Alarms are only good for 7- 10 years and then the sensor is no longer good. We will be able to evaluate the Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Alarms and assist in buying the correct alarms and assist in installation.
Sand for Seniors- A program that will give sand to seniors for the winter with a little shovel to be able to sand the walkways and driveways to prevent falls, free of charge.
File of Life fill out- File of Life is a very helpful piece of paper with all your medical records to assist the Fire Dept in case of emergency, with contact information and updated medications. Along with properly storing DNR/MOLST forms.
Proper Medication Storage- Assisting in helping make sure that medication is properly labeled and stored away for children or easy to access for seniors.
Home O2 Safety- Education in the danger of home Oxygen and proper storage of tanks and labels for home.
Escape Plans- Having a plan in case of an emergency to escape your home where family will know where to look for you.
Alzheimer Association Helpline- Assistance with getting emotional/ physical support with a family member suffer from Alzheimer’s.
Some of the other resources we can assist with is the installation of outside house numbers, outside lights, hand out pamphlets on Electrical, Kitchen, Cooking, Heating, Candle Safety.
